Dynamism and complexity of modern organizations, along with globalization of the economy, and change in industrial economy force organizations to face with new challenges. Organizational success in todayʹs turbulent global business world depends on good decision making and implementation by their managers. Making high level decisions requires knowledge, expertise, skill, and also various approaches to the problem by the decision makers. Group decision making is a mechanism for incorporating viewpoints, knowledge, and abilities of several individuals. It not only leads to better and more acceptable decisions, but also creates more commitment to the decisions. Group decision making has many advantages, but also several deficiencies. So researchers suggest some different techniques like nominal groups, Delphi method, and brainstorming to overcome those deficiencies and improve the productivity of group decisions. Nowadays, organizations managers are interested in applying advanced information technology to support group decision making process and managerial-organizational decisions. In his article, the problems and malfunctioning of group decision making sessions, and the role of group decision support system in improving the productivity of group decision making are under discussion.
