The Application of "Design - Build " System

"Design -Build" system as an approach for managing and implementing development plans has been dominant in industrial countries during last years. This system encompasses special advantages for the customers, so it could be expectable that through creating suitable infrastructure, most of development plans implement based on this approach. Applying this approach in Iran is started, but on account of unsuitable recognition and use, the results have not been appropriate, This article makes clear the application of this approach, regarding other systems of project execution and implementation and then reviews the results of a field research of applying this approach in a dam construction project in Iran. The findings of this field research reveal that the reasons and obligations for using this method and also the performance of related parties in this project have not complied with theoretical bases. Therefore, the advantages and benefits of this approach have not been realized.
