Although knowledge management is not a new concept, the approaches to this concept are important. As resource based approaches have transformed to knowledge-based approaches, and knowledge is going to become the most important sustainable competitive advantage for organizations very rapidly. Therefore, serious attention to knowledge management is necessary. In this article, the definition of knowledge management, based on concepts like data, information, and knowledge is described and different aspects of knowledge management are presented. Studies show that there is no unique approach to knowledge management. There is an emphasis that limited approaches to knowledge management lead to lessen the effectiveness of knowledge management programs drastically. Key success factors of knowledge from the view points of different people are among the other issues in this article. This article also reviews and analyzes knowledge management models like general model of knowledge in the organization, the process model of knowledge management (intra-organizational approach models), and KAFRA model (a model based on internal and external organizational approaches).
