Bashkard, where Bashkardi dialect is spoken, is a mountainous area encircled by Kerman, Sistan and Baluchistan and Hormozgan provinces. A remote place from the capital and suffering from severe geographical conditions, it had long been difficult for the people there to communicate with their neighboring areas; consequently, Bashkardi dialect had remained intact for a long time. However, because of recent developments in communication means as well as some other reasons, this dialect, like many other Persian dialects, is going to be leveled to standard Persian.
This research dates back to 20 years ago when data collection was carried out. Based on the analysis of the data thus gathered, this paper attempts to show some phonetic and syntactic differences between Persian and this dialect. The results show that some phonemes and phones once existent in the Old and Middle Persian but non-existent in Modern Persian are still extant in this dialect. The findings also explain some prominent syntactic differences -- definite and indefinite articles, plural suffixes, adjectives, adverbs and infinitives -- between Bashkardi and Persian.
All in all, Modern Persian and the Bashkardi dialect are so different that complete mutual understanding among the speakers of these two is almost impossible.
