The present paper is an attempt to introduce the theories of "meaning" and "signification" developed by language philosophers in the past few decades. Each theory is followed by a counter-argument which challenges its efficiency and advantage over others. The theories are presented in a chronological order and coherent form, with their distinctive and common features.
