This paper aims to study the phenomenon of metamorphosis of face and shape which is one of the main characteristics of the mythology of ancient civilization as well as being a major factor for the wondrous in myths. The author believes that Supernatural forces, extraordinarly powerful creatures and marvellous elements are responsible for the changes in the appearance of the mythical creatures. Infact Man, in the mythical metamorphosis, ponders on immortality and in a symbolic way searches for his spiritual and material needs. The method of research is library research and results are divided into two groups: descriptive and analytic. In this paper, metamorphosis of divine creatures, evil forces, plants, inanimate objects, metamorphosis of literary men, philosophers, and rhetoricians in the `Shahnamehʹ and other persian gnostic text have been discussed. One of the main results of this discussion is that Ferdosi in the ʹ Shahnamehʹ contrary to Greek mythology and Avesta, has dealt with metamorphosis in a logical and reasonable manner, and in this great work of art ʹ Shahnameh, heroes and wise men have taken the place of gods and have overcome the forces of evil .
