The Role of Insurance Industry in National Economy and Capital Market: An Analysis of Some Countries, Experiences and Iranian Performance

The insurance industry is one of important and pivotal financial indstitutions which Provides security for economic activities through insurance services and coveriy the risks. H also finances many economic activities and investment plans in manufacturing sector. The experiences of surveyed countries shows that the share of insurance industry in GDP of developed and developing economies are 7 and 3.6 precent respectively. Also the asset combinietion of insurance industry in those countries indicate that assets of insurance companies enter the financial markets in different ways and are used for investment purpose The present study shows that the share of Iranʹs insurance in dustry in GDP and its partiapation in financial markets averaged 0.36 and 4 precent respectively during 1978-99 which are significantly low in comparison to those of the surveyed countries.
