A Prospective Study of Female Genital Cancers at Ghaʹem Hospital in Mashad

Different female genital cancers are causes of mortality in different stages of life. Breast Cancer and cancers of lung , intestines and endometer , in general , are main causes of mortality . This prospective study was carried out at the tumor clinic of Ghaem Hospital in Mashad , Iran , for 10 years (from 1991 - 2001) . The prevalence of different cancer types , risk factors and their treatments were assessed . The results revealed that the prevalenee of cancers of cervix , ovarian , endometer , vulva and vagina were 62.5% , 22.2% , 13.7% , 3.9% and 1.6% respectively . The most important risk factors for cervical cancer was multiparity , multiple marriages ; infertility for ovary and endometrial cancers and itching for vulva cancer were of high risk . Methods of treatment included surgery and chemotherapy and radiotherapy where necessary . Our results were in line with the previons findings ; however , we insist on the necessity of continuation .
