An Analysis of Oil Position in U.S. Attack on Iraq

The present article, based on explicit and implicit evidence, has shown that oil was of great importance in U.S. decision to attack on Iraq. In fact, although U.S. attack on Iraq was lunched under the pretext of overthrowing of Saddam Hussein and his government, different indications as well as prolonging of occupation of Iraq all together indicates the significance of U.S. unannounced and behind the curtain objectives in Iraq. Among these objectives, the issue of Iraq oil attracted the attention of international political economy analysts from the beginning of crisis. This article shows that Iraq enjoys the second place, after Saudi Arabia, of oil reserves in the world and, therefore, It can play a key role in U.S. energy strategy to solve the problem of increasing dependance of U.S. economy on oil as well as coercing oil - dependent countries such as OPEC members, Russia and other states. Still, evidence indicates that U.S. would be able, by dominating over and controlling of lraq oil, to continue dollar hegemony jin global oil economy.
