Determining the Sandards of Height and Weight for 6-12-year-old Kids of Mashad and Comparing it with International Standards

The reason why growth could be considered as a top priority is that the most noteworthy evolutionary changes in terms of growth occur in childhood after the embroyonic stage. Since there are no growth standards available in Iran ,we turn to evaluateʹ based on the international (rather than domestic) scales. Then, the appraisal wonʹt be reliable. This study determines eligible domestic standards through which we might deduce more accurately and ogically. In this cross-sectional study, we performed a classified-stratified sampling through which 4903 children were chosen from 45 elementary and secondary schools from Mashhad. Therefore, growth criteria including weight and height percentile were calculated. Guaging different weight and height percentiles, we compared our findings with Nelsonʹs and Currentʹs weight and height at the age of six . In accordance with international standards; yet there was an apparent radical decrease in these items as the child grows. They are equal at the age of seven and eight and the lowest score belonged to the twelve-year-old children in this sliding slope. This study confirms the fact that there is a significant difference in our findings while using domestic standards in comparison with our rating based on international scales. Therefore, it seems to be insensible and inaccurate to base our judgments on non-domestic standards. Due to these inconsistencies, not only some normal conditions might mistakenly be reported as abnormalities but also several anomalies may be skipped in terms of diagnosis. We cherish the hope that this would be done properly through determining appropriate Iranian standards.
