The flourishing of translation movement in the contemporary Egypt

The attack of the French army to Egypt in 1798 brought with it a new culture and civilization. From the time they left the country and the time Mohammad Ali Pasha seized power, the country was in political turmoil. Following the policies of Europeans, Mohamamd Ali Pasha tried to modernize the country by dispatching students to foreign universities, using the services of European experts, and translation of modern scientific texts. Tahtavi is among the important men in this period who, mastering Arabic and learning French while in France, began to translate scientific texts into Arabic. He educated a generation of translators who brought about a cultural change as well as a translation movement.
