THE STUDY OF THE GROWTH PATTERN IN 11-19 YEARS OLD GIRLS IN ZAHEDAN

One of the most important indicators for evaluation of growth and physical health is measurement of body weight and height according to age and body mass index ( BMI) Jo assess the status of growth pattern in 11-19 year old girls in Zahedan, in a descriptive cross - sectional study, 1500 girls with mean age of 14.4 + 2.4 were selected by the randomized systematic method and then their age, body weight , height and body mass index were recorded. The results showed that the mean weight, height and BMI for girls were 42.7 + 15.5 Kilograms ,150.1 + 9 centimeters and 18.8 +3.5 Kg/m^ 2 respectively and most of the weight and height percentiles , especially in lower ages , were less than standard. It seems that minor phases of malnutrition exist in the society under investigation. Considering significant differences between some of the weight, height indexes and standard NCHS, careful selection of enough samples from various regions of the country is suggested. And finally , a certain criterion for weight and height should be derermimed so that after comparison of the results , there will be more certainty of analysis and judgement . In the end , an appropriate growth pattern which is suitable for the region should be adopted taking into consideration the background, genetic, hygienic problems and socio - economic conditions which certainly have an impact on growth.
