The Qurʹan and Naser-e-Khosroʹs Personal Style

This article first reviews the definitions given for style and proceeds with a discussion on style as a crucial element in the intellectual background of Naser-e-Khosroʹs verse. By analyzing and comparing %10 statistical samples from three poets of the Khorasani School of poetry, it is argued that the Qurʹan has been a major source for Naser-e-Khosroʹs verse. The.: essay further argues that although his adaptations from the Qurʹan are noticeable, his personal style and unique manner of expression are due to his indirect and original adaptations of the spirit of Qurʹanic teachings. The writer also contends that Naser-e-Khosro gives artistic dimensions to these borrowed concepts giving rise to novel figures of speech through which manner of expression obtains new functions. His praise for wisdom and knowledge, self-consciousness through nature, and his disgust with ignorance, loose lyricism and verbal nonsense are among his most common concepts. A study of these will indicate that while he shared some techniques with his contemporaries, he managed to have a personal style.
