Evaluation of Acute Phase Reactant Tests and Body Teperature in Determining the Early Prognosis of Acute Myocardial infarction

Inflammation and inflammatory responses play an important role in the pathophysiology of atherosclrosis. Specific proteins increase in the acute phase of AMI which can be considered as important indexes of diagnosis and prognosis in AMI patients. WBC count, ESR of the first hour and the body temperature fluctuations during AMI can be helpful. In this study, these tests and their outcomes are investigated in respct with AMI patients. Two groups, each with 50 patients from Imam Hossein Hospital of Shahrood, were randomly included in the study. The first group included those patients who died of AMI during their hospitalization; while, the second group members survived on discharging. WBC, ESR and CRO were the measurement tests. The positive CRP test in the cases was less than the control group, which was true for different ages and sex particularly in women. Leukocytosis was less prevalent among the cases and more significant among the middle-aged. ESR was more prevalent among the cases and the difference was found to be statistically significant for the female cases. Fever was less prevalent among the first group. However, it was significantly higher among the female cases during hospitalization. Maximum body temperature among the cases was higher than the control group members. 16.7% of the eases had fever on thief fifth day of hospitalization. Finally, it was concluded that in patients admitted with AMI the following findings could predict worse prognosis: negative CRP test, first-hour ESR more than 10 in women and body temperature more than 37.5 degrees in women.
