Methods of Transportation Noise Control

Noise pollution caused by transportation has different impacts on the psychological, social and even economical aspects of human-life. In this article, it has been tried to depict theʹeffects of noise, especially those directly related to transportation, and different ways for reducing these effects. Moreover, some adverse or negative physiologic of aspects of noise will be discussed such as; effects on sleep, audition, physical well-being, vision, balance system. skin, pain, stress and mental condition, verbal/speech communication, work effeciency, performance, psychomotor activities etc. On the other hand, a brief comparison has been made between noise pollution of various transportation systems (Road, Rail, Air, Sea). Finally, according to social, cultural and economical conditions in Iran, some proper methods for attenuating noise pollution and controlling its effects are recommended such as: sound barriers, silent vehicles, mechanical noise control, anti-noise pavements and silent asphalt, horticultural and land-use noise control strategics, etc.
