The structure of indicative past in Persian

In this article, the writer describes the historical development of the indicative past in Persian, showing what methods Persian speakers have used for three thousand years to indicate an event happening in the past. The examples, taken from Old Persian texts, Middle Persian texts and Modern Persian texts, show that the structure of this tense has not had a fixed form, changing in each period. This survey sheds light on the nature, origin, history and applications of this tense.
