Tamerlane is a dark figure in history. Some Iranian historians are uncertain about his greatness, but a few others have praised him in literature. In this article, attempt has been made to unmask the brutality of this figure who is sometimes described as a patron of knowledge and piety. The vile covered with him is multi-folded and by virtue of this reason, this figure has been depicted differently in history. As to historical evidence, there can be no doubt that he should be regarded as a wicked figure in Iranian literature.
