A Study on the Effects of Globalization on Demand for Iranʹs Sugar

In general, globalization of economy - which has been discussed as further integration of national economies in the world economy-causes economic, political, social, and cultural changes in the world. One of its main features is the serious competition in goods and services. The production capacity of Iranʹs food industry and its ability in supplying to international market-which seem to have been neglected very much-and its challenges in the process of globalization. This article estimates the demand for Iranʹs sugar, as a main commodity of Iranʹs food Industry in the process of globalization, using the time series for 1961-2001 as well as IIT as globalization indices. The regressed import function besed on self-explanatory method with ADL shows that if Iran moves on the path of the world economic integration, the demand for its sugar would increase.
