Prevalence of trichomonas gallinae infection in domesticated pigeons and chicken in Ahvaz.

The study was carried out on 190 domesticated pigeons and 64 chicken from different parts of Ahvaz to determine prevalence of Trichomonas infection. The direct wet smears from the pharynx of each domesticated pigeon on and chicken were prepared and examined by light microscope. Out of 190 pigeons, 150 (78.94%) were infected by Trichomonas gallinae. The Trichomonas gallinae was not seen in any of 64 chicken. Maximum and Minimum infection rate were seen in the south and east of Ahvaz respectively. Minimum Trichomonas infection was seen in the pigeons of older than three years old and the rate of infection in hot season (81.55%) was more than cold season (74.81%) but the difference was not significant. This study showed that Trichomonas infection is prevalant in pigeons of Ahvaz.
