Scientific Note New Report of Pachyneuron grande Thomson (Hym. Pteromalidae) from Iran

In the course of studies carried out in 2000-2001 to develop a pest management program for poplar, two species of syrphid flies were collected as predator on black poplar aphid, Pterocomma populeum (katt.). In spring 2000 and 2001, syrphid larvae were reared on poplar plantation infested by the aphid and resulting pupae were transferred to the laboratory. Out of 39 pupae in 2000 and 44 in 2001 five specimens of a parasitic wasp identified as Pachyneuron grande Thomson emerged. The body length 118 - 3 mm, Costa! cell of forewing with a raw of hairs extending over its distal third to half. In most females the basal segments of funicle longer than wide. The distal segments usually quadrate. Antennae inserted above level of ventral edge of the eyes. This wasp had been reported on syrphid fly, Epistraphe balteata in France and on syrphus arcuatus from switzerland and had already reported from Moldavy, Czech and Slovakia as well.
