For the first time, Shroyer [1] registered Lost Foam Casting of Expandable Pattern Casting as U.S. patent No. 2,830,343 in 1958. He used bonded sand in his new casting method. After him, the use of unbonded sand was patented by Smith [2]. Today, this method is reffered as one of the best substitutes for convectional green sand casting for producing near net shape castings. Several studies have been done, specially during the past 20 years on different aspects ofLFC. Here is the summary of what scientists know about this relatively new casting method today.
