Estimation and Analysis of Labor Supply Function in Khoozestan Province

Khoozestan is among Iranʹs most populated provinces. Studies indicate its increasing population-mostly youth-growth as well as its high rate of active population growth. This article estimates the relation between the volume ot labour force activity in Khoozestan as the dependent variable, on the one hard, and its per capita real GDP, the ratio of academic graduates to the literate Population, the ratio of the literate to the whole population, and the unemployment rate as the independent variable, on the other honel, for 1966-2002. It uses ADFʹs single root test to examine if the variables are consistent. Since all variables proved to be consistent, the labour supply function has been stipulated. Also it has been estimated using ordinal least squares method. The results show that higher literacy and academic education have positive effect while higher unemployment and longer waiting periods lor finding a job put negative inpacts on labour supply.
