Numerical Control Machines and Iranian Manufacturing Industries: Level of Utilization

With the assumption that using higher level of technologies shows the capability of Industrial Development, this paper has done a field study to identify how much and at what level Iranian manufacturers use Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines in their manufacturing activities. A Domain of 153 manufacturing units that somehow have employed computers in their manufacturing systems to automate and improve their productivity was studied. The result of this study gives a good picture about the utilization level of Computer Numerical Control systems in Iranian manufacturing industries. This picture shows that we have improved the use of CNCs but we are weak in employing DNC and robotic systems and need more integration among these advanced manufacturing technologies.
