The diagnosis of HIV infection is usually made on the basis of the detection of HIV antibodies and/or antigen. Serological tests for detecting antibodies to HIV are generally classified as screening tests (sometimes referred to as initial tests) or confirmatory tests (supplemental tests). The most widely used screening tests are ELISAs as they are the most appropriate for screening large numbers of specimens on a daily basis, e.g. blood donations. Nevertheless, it is appear that ELISA methods based on spectrophotometeric detection have low sensitivity for detection of low amounts of antibodies. Chemiluminescence based techniques provide powerful ability to detection of low amounts of analyts. In this work, 120 HIV positive and nearly 800 negative serum samples (consist of some infectious patients and special physiologic conditions) tested and the accuracy parameters include sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were calculated. Results of accuracy parameters calculation and distribution chart for samples indicate the best sensitivity (100%) and reliable specificity.
