The first anatomical report and anew morphological survey on the Psilotum nudum L. in Iran

Since Psilotum nudum L. is primitive and had been related to the Devonian Period, it has special importance in paleobotany. Moreovere its medicinal property has been distinguished. One sample of this species was recognized just by morphological study and was introduced as a new record, from Iran, in 2004. In this research, new discovered samples of this species were studied by anatomical survey, in additional to morphological study. The species had grown in the form of Epiphyte on the stem of the aged Alnus glutinosa, as suspended, in Mazandaran Province. Its average height is 30cm. The stems have dicotomic branching. There are a few longitudinal salient lines, very small scale leaves, with spiral phyllotaxy and bifid bracts which hold the sinangia. The sinangia have spiral arrangement on the stem. Each sinangium has three joined sporangia. The anatomical experiment showed that the kind of stele in rhizome is protostele and consist of actinostele and in the stem is siphonostele.
