چكيده لاتين :
This experiment was conducted in Miandoab agricultural research station, during 2003 to evaluate the effect of limited irrigation on the weight and the processing quality of sugar beet root parts. The experimental design was a factorial one arranged in a complete randomized block design with three replications. Three irrigation levels consisting of 40, 70 and 100 percent water requirement along with four sugar beet cultivars (Rasoul, Shirin, Dorothea and BR1) were considered as the experimental factors. Weight and processing quality of scalp, crown, root and tail parts of the storage root were determined. The results indicated that the highest amount of white sugar content in all the cultivars was in the root part while the lowest amount in the scalp. Drought stress increased sugar content in all cultivars. The highest level of such impurities as sodium, potassium and amino nitrogen, in all cultivars and at all irrigation levels were detected in the scalp part of beet storage root. A higher level of irrigation increased the concentration of the impurities. In conclusion, these results confirmed that scalp part should be cut and discarded before beet processing in the factory because of its high content of impurities and its low weight ratio. However, crown part of the storage root may be delivered to the factory for sugar extraction because of its increasing white sugar yield per unit field area for al I cultivars.
