Evaluation of fleece characterstics of first and second generations of ArkharMerinosxGhezel and ArkharMerinos x Moghani Crossbred sheep

In order to evaluate fleece characteristics, wool samples of 451 yearlings F, and Flʹs of Arkharmcrinosxfihezel (ArGh) and Arkhanmerinos x Moghani (ArMo) were collected during a period of six years (1999-2004) and were analysed with Microprojector. The following traits including fiber diameter (11), fiber diameter variability (%), staple length (em) and percentage of wool, medulla and kemp were measured. The average of those traits for Fjʹs of ArGh were 27.10 ±3.36 11, 36.60±7.84 %, 11.81±4.06 em, 91.31±9.32%, 7.27±6.90%, 1.40±3.03%; and 26.33 ±3.4111, 34.64±9.36%, 1O.15±3.99 em, 95.4l±4.70 %, 3.39±5.85 %, 2.01±2.65 % for Flʹs respectively. The average of those traits for Fis of ArMo were 26.18±4.11 p, 36.19±8.63 %, 10.95±3.34 em, 88.90±9.28 %, 8.81±7.76 %, 2.27±2.47 %; and 26.99±3.7 11, 36.52±14.5 %, 1O.09±2.92 em, 94.60±6.36 %, 3.24±4.52 %; and 2.85±4.99 % for F,s, respectively. Fleece quality of F,ʹs compared to parental average and FI ʹs were in higher quality to reach standards for use in carpet and textile industry but it needs further research.
