THE EFFECTS OF ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND DEMOGRAPHIC FACTORS ON MENTAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH OF AGED PEOPLE

Study the mental and psychological health of human beings has been a concern of the sociologists and psychologists since longtime ago. During the years, its importance is not lessened but even increased due to environmental necessities and various social pressures. The elderly and aged people usually are witnesses to the death of some friends and relatives of the same age as theirʹs. This makes them to feel very lonely. It is therefore very important to recognize the factor affecting the mental health of these people, especially because of the changes in these factors nowadays. Lack of investigation and study in this field makes such studies as the present one necessary. The principal purpose of this study is to recognize the effects of economic. social and demographics factors on mental and psychological health of aged people of the city of Azar-shahr. The survey method and questioner are used in this study. The statistical society of the study consists of all the 65 years old and above in Azar - Shahr (2055 persons) The findings of this study indicate that: I) The men benefit of more mental health than the women 2) Those with spouse enjoy more mental health than those who have lost their spouse 3) With the increase of age, mental health decreases 4) Higher economic and social status brings more and better mental health.
