A Survey of the Observance of Environmental Health Standards in University Associated Hospitals in Fars-1380

IIntroduction and Objectives: Nosocomial infections cause mortality and morbidity In hospitalized patients and environmental factors have a major effect on these infections. The purpose of this study is to assess the use of environmental health standards in the hospitals of the universities of Medical Sciences and Health services in Fars in order to Improve the environmental health conditions and reduce nosocomial infections. Materials and Methods.Subjects of this descriptive study consist of 13 educational and 17 non -educational hospitals of the universities of Medical Sciences in Fars. This study was carried out using some checklists containing 80 questions on different aspects of environmental health in various sections of the hospitals. The status of environmental health standards in different sections was considered desirable if it scored 81-100, relatively desirable if it scored 61-80, and undesirable if it scored ʹ5: 60. Results: Generally, observance of environmental health standards in these hospitals IS relatively desirable 171.5 ±14.3i, Recovery rooms appeared to have the best condition (84±23.8) whereas the worst condition is related to central sterilization room (CSR) (56± 30.2).
