A Survey of the Use of Non-Persian Periodicals in Medical Science University of Kerman: with Regard to Accessibility Factor

The efficacy of periodical holdings of a library is highly dependent on important factors affecting their use. Accessibility is one of these factors. This study aims at determining the use rate of nonpersian periodicals in Medical Science University of Kerman while determining to what extent it is influencd by accessibility Factor. This research used the experimental and survey method. Research population was consisted of 399 titles and 3871 issues of non-persian periodicals out of which 15.1%titles and 11.1% issues belong to the dental school as available journals. Research data were gathered and analysed through two known statistical softwares known as "Spss" and "Epi2" as well as applying Z test(a=O.05%, Z=1.95) to test the research hypothesis. Findings show that 31.5% titles and 36.3% issues were used during the course of study. The highest percent of each title use (33.4%) belonged to the medicine and the lowest (23.5%) belonged to the gynecology and the midwifery course. On the whole, 126 titles were used from which 19 titles were belonged to the available journals. The results of the non-available journals indicated the importance of accessibility factor, while the results concerning the lack of use of some available journals, implied the importance of those journals from the view point of the users. Accordingly, the need for a continuous evaluation of provision policies and methods to make best use of limited funding is perceptible
