An Analysis Globalization and Identity: Challenges Facing Counselors and Psychologists

The unity of contemporary world is more than ever. Developments of technology in recent decades and increased global commu n iac ation have led to an u npr cce den t acceleration of globalization and world unity. One consequences of this phenomenon has been the expansion of global culture that consisted of different values and has changed the co nt ext in which identities a re constructed. At first the characteristics of globa I culture and its consequences for identity fom aticn have been discussed, including: Bicultural identity, identity confusion, self-selected cultures, spread ofcmerging adulthood, vitual identity, and consuming identity. Then the callenges of globalization for counselors and psychologists have been discussed, ch allengcs such as the nece sity o f more flexible and extended perspective to developmental issues specially identity form at ion. more compie xiry ofem erged problems for clients, and nece ssity ofa pplying new and diffr en t approaches and strategies in practice. Finally some strategies for effective engagement with these challenges have been offered.
