Investigation on the Scientific Resources Consortia in Iran and other Countries

Information technology has increased dissemination of information, and therefore, libraries review their previous experiences in acquisition, organization and diffusion of information. Library acquisition; in terms of a consortium, is a proper approach is thought by libraries, specially, for the digital online resources. Library consortium is a group of two or more libraries agrees to co-operate with each other in order to fulfill certain similar needs, usually resource sharing. At one end of the spectrum, international publishers would prefer to sell their products to the consortia; rather than , they enter into negotiation with each individual library. At the other end, libraries seek to achieve more scientific resources with their limited budget. This paper will try to explain academic consortia short history in a few countries, and then , will explore the academic libraries consortium in Iran, along with suggestions for its future development.
