Study of battered wives refered to shahid kamyab emergency hospital of Mashhad in six month period

Background & Aim: wife-battering as a socia- cultural difficult would he seen in all ofcommunities. In spite of emphasis to prevention ofappearing .beacuuse ofretigious , civil &cultural impediment, serious proceeding to this subject he abstained. The aim ofthe investigation was study a/factors corresponding in wife battering & incidence of physical, verbal & sexual kinds. Materials & Methods: This investigation a/first was done in a traumatology center in our country about battered women. Questionnair have completed at informed satisfaction & observance of medical ethic principal by physician or expert nurse in 76 haltered women (31 cases abstained 10 interview). This Study was done cross- sectional in six months ofthe first-half of 2002. Fingings: The women were aged between 25 and 34 years. 93% ofthe women experienced bodily injuries. XX~.ʹO verbal abuse and 8% sexual abuse. Head andfacial injuries were seen in 47% ofthe women. 88% ofbattered woman were housekeepers. 2()~..oof husbands were unemployed. 12.5% of the husbands abused alcohol and 35% were dependent on opium. Conclusion: Complete and wider protection of -y.,·omen with pre-marriage ethical, social & sexual skill teaching and levying ofa clear law is necessaryfor the prevention ofthis indecent phenomena.
