Psychological criticism of identity crisis in the poems of Adonis

Ali Ahmad Said is one of the famous poets of the Arab world who took the name of Adonis when he was seventeen. For him, this change of name meant that he does not belong to the Arabic-Islamic culture and its tradition any more. The poet, his thought and his literature, have greatly been under the influence of modernism and its culture. The result of such a change and influence has clearly shown itself in his poetry in the forms of doubt, despair, claiming for full power, lack of respect and loss of identity. In their study of Adonisʹs poetry, the writers of this article have presented a complete psychological criticism of the poetʹs identity.
