A Comparative Study of the Interpretion for the Ekmal Verse with Emphasis on Answering the Critiques of Shitle View

The roo t for differing Shiite and Sunnite interpretations of Ekma l verse (3 Maedeh) is two things: the cause of revelation and the indication of day to which the word "al-yaom" (thi s day) refers. Cons idering the meaning of the: verse, along with the conditions of revelation and teachings of the had ith, the shia have regarded "the decl aration of the supreme leadership of Imam Ali" as the cause for its revelation, on which they have conse nsus. On the other hand , The Sunn i have disput e on interpreting different segments of the verse and have suggested vario us possibilities for its commentary, none of which have been j ustified. The main cause for the Sunn iʹs disagreement with the Shia i-: on the authenticity of the traditions which identify Gadi r Khurn as the place and imamate as the cause for its revelation. Among the Sunni critics it is only Fakhr Ra ii who has assess ed Shiaʹ s view, based on text analysis regardless of the tradi tions. In our view this cri tique - which was never taken into account is due to Razi ʹ s misunderstandi ng of Shias argument.
