A reflection on the how and why of Platoʹs way of writing

Being inspired by his teacher, Plato wrote his works (except for a few) in the form of dialogue. According to Plato writing i;, not that much helpful in education. Rather it is verbal interaction between a teacher and his disciple (which is a live and dynamic pattern) that gradually introduces a student to reality. From the viewpoint of Plato, knowledge cannot be taught nor can be received; knowledge is a mere recollection. Having an analytical approach, the present article seeks to find out why Plato wrote his philosophical ideas in the form ordinary dialogues current among laymen. According to this study, this is because of the general spirit ruling the whole Platonic philosophy and the way he tackles philosophy. Confronting sophists, inclination towards presenting philosophical problems in simple formats and the impacts of Socratesʹ death on his soul are among the prime factors for Platoʹs selecting such a method.
