Three species of Fusarium isolated from root and crown of rosemary medicinal plant in Semnan

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) is a perennial succulent plant that its cultivation for pharmacy and cosmetic industries is most important in Tran. A major product of rosemary is cultured in Semnan province. In August 2007 infected plant samples from Semnan with symptoms of rotting and necrosis of root and crown and also yellowing and wilting of leaves and hranches were collected and used for isolation of the pathogens. Symptcmatie root and erown tissues after surface sterilization with sodium hypochlorite (I%), were cultured on PDA medium in Petri dishes. Colonies of Fusarium were recovered from scgmants on PDA and single spore cultures were obtained. The isolates were grown on PDA and CLA. Based on colony morphology and conidial dimcmion the Iollomng Fusarium species were identified Fusarium solani (Mort.) Appel & Wollenew., Fusarium reticulatum Mont. and Fusarium sp (Booth 1971. The genus Fusarium, 237 pp.: Lesie & Summerell 2006. The Fusarium laboratory manual, 388 p.) F. solani colony, after 3 days, on PDA appeared as white cream on top and cream at the bottom of Petri plate. On CLA medium: macroconidia were usually fusiform, wirh 3-5 septa. macroconidum with 3 septa measuring 5x30 (um). microconidia nearly ellipsoidal, t-z-celled measuring 2.5xlO(um). Monophialides on prostrate hyphae measuring 30-55 J.1(um) Chlamydospores. glohose, solitary or binary, terminal or intercallary. F. reticulatum grew slowly on PDA medium and colony on PDA appeared frist as cream and alter brown La violet on lap of Perri plare. On CLA medium macroconidia were falcate, slightly curved, narrowing toward hath ends, 1-4 septa, macroconidum with 4 septa measuring 3,2x4 I (mu). No microconidium was founed This is the first report of F. reticulatnm and F, solani on Rasmarinus officinalis in Iran.
