Social. cultural. economic and political developments in recent years have pUI many local and minorilY languages in danger of extinction and Iranian vernaculars are not an exception to this generaf rule : Nowadays, in Mazandaran, we wilness the increase of acquisition and usage of Persian in various domains and the persistence of current slate can threalen tne survival of Mazandarani, This research, using questiona;r and interview, is invesligating Ihe acquisition and usage of Mazandarani among three age groups in Amot. The findings of tile research Sl10W thet in some informal domains like family domain, Mazandarani is tne dominant language but in formal domains such as school and office domains Persian is more common. In af/ "domains, Persian is used by young people is more Ihan by older age groups. Meanwhile, the usage of Mazandarani by women, urban and educated peopfe more Ihan that by men, rural and if/iterate inhabitanrs. Altitudes towards Mazandarani IS nor so positive, especially among younger generations. Considering rhe above mentioned casesperiencing a process of gradual erosion in the region.
