An Analysis on Ala-al-Dola Semnaniʹs Mystic System

Ala- al-Dola Semnani is a Sufi who is regarded as one of the greatest "shattahs" in the history of Sufism; however, his ideas about the concept of « Shath» and such great " shattahs" as Hallaj and Bayazid and his critical views towards them are worth considering. Ala- al-Dolaʹs approach to the criticism of the" shathiat" of such people as Hallaj is based on a dual stance. On one hand he bewares his disciples of giving their hearts to such things. On the other hand, he explains and justifies "Shathiat", There are causes for his moderate stance towards the "Shathiat" which have been discussed in this paper. - Another reason for "Shath" in Ala-a] - Dola,s opinion is the Divine wayfarerʹs illusion of getting to perfection, which stops him in the humors of the spiritual path he is traveling along, and prevents him from getting to higher humors.
