Comparison of Hemoglobin Alc Levels in Healthy Patients and Non Diabetic Iron Deficiency Anemia(IDA) Patients Before and after Intervention in Rafsanjan

Introduction: Glycemia and blood glucose levels are under the effect of Hb A Ic and therefore they could be considered as a valid index for the follow-up and control of diabetes .There are different and controversial reports on the effects of iron deficiencv anemia on Hb A Ic. Effects of IDA in non diabetic patients are also unknown. The aim of the study was the comparison of Hb A IC levels in healthy patients and non diabetic Iron deficiency anemia (iDA) patients before and after intervention in Rafsanjan. Methods: This research was a semi- experimental intervention study. The population under study consisted of 30 non diabetic IDA patients and 30 healthy patients in Rafsanjan that were matched for age and sex and other characteristics. Ferritin, Hb, HeT. MeV. MCH. MCHC, FBS. BS 2HPP and Hb Ale, were measured to confirm IDA. These parameters "·..ere also measured in the healthy subjects {control group) to confirm their health and them being non diabetic and iron sufficient and all parameters were compared after the iruervcruion. Then all patients with IDA were treated with iron; 6mg/ kg for 3 months, The tests was repeated again and results compared \\ ith the results of both the groups before the intervention, Results: The mean llb A I c lev el before iron treatment was (7.64"ʹ2.08) in patients with IDA that "as higher than the control group (5.97ʹ" 1.01 )(1ʹ<0.05). Hb A Ie decreased after iron therapy in patients with IDA. COl1£ʹ1,U;OI1: It is recommended that before any diagnostic or therapeutic decisions are made with regards to Hb A Ie. iron deficiency should be corrected.
