Application of Image Processing Method in Determination of Asphaltene Aggregate Size distribution

Crude oil asphaltene aggregate size distribution in a toluene n-heptane mixture and under shear rates was investigated. Image processing was used for determining asphaltene aggregate size distribution. It was found that under shear rate; firstly the mean aggregate size increases until it reaches to a maximum value. Then when the fragmentation process dominates; the size decreases and finally it reaches to a constant steady state mean size. The amount of shear rate and initial aggregate sizes strongly affect the evolution of aggregate size. The image processing method has a reasonable certitude. It has remarkable advantages comparing to the other particle size analyzing methods. This method gives the size and shape of aggregates directly.
