Simulation and Study of Effect of Changes in the Operating Condition on the Yield and Quality of Visbreaking Unit Products of Tehran Refinery Using Petro-Sim Software

The visbreaking unit utilizes the vacuum residue as feed and converts it into fuel oil. In this study the visbreaking unit of Tehran refineiy was simulated and then a parametric sensitivity analysis was carricd out. The Petro-Sim simulator, which is specialized in the simulation of refinery processes, was used in this study. Initially the simulator was validated using actual plant test runs and after tuning, the simulations provided errors less than 3%. Using the validated simulator the sensitivity of fuel oil yield and gasoline and fuel oil viscosity with the variation of furnace temperature (reaction temperature) was investigated. The validated simulator can be used to optimize the unit operating conditions to obtain the required product specifications or study possible changes in the feed conditions such as the use of diluents.
