Modeling of Exclusion Mercaptans Process by Oxidation of Gas and Oil Fraction

Mercaptans are highly corrosive sulfur components in hydrocarbon feed stocks. They could also act as poison in downstream catalytic processes. Mercaptans can be removed from hydrocarbon feeds by a variety of processes. One of the most commonly used processes for light feeds is the Merox catalytic oxidation process where the mercaptans are converted to less harmful disulfides. In this study the catalytic oxidation of mercaptans over a fixed bed reactor is investigated. A mathematical model is presented to investigate the effect of temperature, catalyst loading and catalyst particle size on the reactor performance.
