A Citation Analysis of Doctoral Dissertations in Library and ^ Information Science Submitted to the Science and Research Branch of Islamic Azad University, 1996 - 2007

This research identifies the characteristics of the cited literature in 35 library 12  and information science doctoral dissertations submitted to the Science and Research branch of Islamic Azad University between 1996 and May 2007. The findings reveal that among a total of 2651 citations compiled from the studied dissertations, books were the most cited form of publication (1042 citations, 39.3%). The citations were prominently made to Farsi resources (55.38%). The most frequently cited Iranian and non-Iranian authors were Abbas Horri and Jennifer Rowley who received 34 and 7 citations respectively. "A Review on Information and Information Science" was the most cited Farsi book (10 citations) and the "Encyclopedia of Library and Information Science" received the highest number of citations among non-Farsi books (9 citations). The most frequently cited journals were "Information Studies" (Farsi) which received 45 citations and "College and Research Libraries" (English) with 27 citations. Findings also show that the longest cited half life (24 years) belongs to Farsi books and the shortest (13 years) is for non-Farsi journals.
