A Study on the Viewpoints of Managers of Tehranʹs Special > Libraries on the Development of Digital Libraries

In this research, questionnaires were distributed among managers of 62 special libraries in order to study their viewpoint on the development of digital libraries. The findings show that the surveyed managers have a clear understanding of digital libraries and are in favor ofthe digitization oflibrary material. Although the   managers believed that more than half of the libraries do not possess the required budget and appropriate software and hardware facilities, they emphasized the necessity for developing digital libraries. Additionally, more than 50 percent of the library managers suggested that the lack of required equipment, specialist staff, financial facilities, telecommunication infrastructures, and clear copyright laws, are the main obstacles to developing digital libraries. Among the 62 studied special libraries, only 10 had digitized their resources, and not completely. 18 library managers had plans for the digitization of their library resources in the future.
