Tehranʹs Problems in Facing Earthquakes from an Urban Planning and Design Point of View and Proposing Some Possible Solutions

Considering the significance of the Tehran metropolis from various viewpoints, including political, economical, social, etc. as well as its high seismicity, in this paper, it has been tried to introduce the problems that this metropolis faces and the shortcomings it has with regard to urban planning and design, especially issues which may greatly affect encountering probable earthquakes in the future. In addition, solutions to eliminate these problems will be provided in two long-term and short-term groups. Surely, making use of these methods in reviewing Tehranʹs master plan may increase the capitalʹs preparation in facing probable earthquakes in the future and decrease some of the unpleasant outcomes of earthquake occurrence in this city
