Structural Attributes, Relational Factors, and Types of Religiosity among University Students

Social scientists, depending on their particular approach and intellectual inclination, declare different types of religiosity and have thus studied associations of religiosity types with social and demographic variables. Such scholars believe that the religiosity takes different forms and types in modern age in a way that one should move away from the conventional dual theist/atheist framework and instead speak of a pluralized spots on the spectrum of religious tendencies. Nonetheless, formation of types of religiosity takes place under preconditions or prerequisites prominent among which are the structural ones. Relational factors constitute another aspect for determining religiosity which has been relatively neglected. The main goal of this article is to study the relationship between structural attributes, relational factors and particular type of religiosity. The population of this research includes Tehran University under-graduate and graduate students in the first semester of educational year of 2006-2007. The sample represents 313 students who were selected through proportional stratified sampling method. Findings indicate that there is a positive association between variables, however note should be taken that the role of relational factors and networks elements are more prominent compared to other variables.
