The Secular Challenges and the Jurisdiction of Islamic State

The present article studies, after a conceptual discussion on secularism, the secular challenges before Islamic State from practical point of view, and investigates it in two levels of domestic and foreign dimensions. In foreign dimension, the following points have been addressed: the western attitude towards Islam, the phenomenon of modern colonialism, globalization, and the western mass mediaʹs propaganda. In domestic dimension, the following factors have been introduced as the major reasons for secular inclinations of the society and the state: the fundamental evolution in thought; the administratorsʹ religious motivation and practice; enlightened individuals and secular forces; and finally, the religious elitesʹ secular inclinations and their dependency on the government. The question of populism of IRI and the relationship between modernism and secularism are among other issues dealt with here. In the end, the views of secularist school regarding the transition from Islamic societies and states to secular ones are reviewed, and some considerations and recommendation are presented by the writer.
