A Reveiw at Kohlbergʹs View on Moral Growth

This paper explains, in brief, Kohlbergʹs view on the nature of moral growth and evolution; then it mentions some critical points in a review of his view. This study aims at investigating and criticizing Kohlbergʹs view on moral development concerning other thinkersʹ views. Kohlberg follows Piaget in defining the moral growth of all individuals. Piagetʹs view is classified among the cognitive views, and Kohlbergʹs view is similar to Piagetʹs from this perspective. There is, however, a major difference between Kohlbergʹs view and that of Piaget: Kohlberg extends moral growth to ages older than 12. He classifies humansʹ moral growth into six stages, seeing their moral growth as parallel to their psychological growth. This view has resulted in different reactions and consequences in scientific circles. Among the findings of this study are defective points in Kohlbergʹs view which have been somehow neglected.
