Role of Religion in the Modern World with Emphasis on Relationship between Science and Religion

The article, with the aim of reviewing the opportunities and challenges facing religious knowledge in the present world, with emphasis on the relationship between science and religion, has made use of the methodology of documented analysis. Statistical analysis and all resources and references regarding the relationship between science and religion were the main aspects of research, during which, instead of random sampling, all available resources and references in hand, including books, articles and research reports, were carefully examined. The means of research were notes and index forms, and the data gathered was analyzed as qualitative. In view of this, at the beginning of the article, after introduction of the methodology, the nature of knowledge has also been considered and different narrations based on different viewpoints discussed in this regard. Then the nature and essence of religion has been discussed, and with reference to the various definitions of religion, religious beliefs and religious awareness from the viewpoints of scholars, an attempt has been made to present a better understanding of this matter. The relationship between knowledge and religion has also been studied. Finally, challenges and opportunities facing religious knowledge in the modern world have been focused upon, along with different viewpoints in this regard, with reference to the existing challenges in this field.
